Outage Scout Privacy Policy
Effective date: November 2, 2026 ยท App: Outage Scout (com.thecloudgrid.outagescout) and thecloudgrid.com/outage-scout
Overview
Outage Scout shows scheduled and unscheduled power outages in BENECO's service area (Baguio City and Benguet) and can alert you when an outage affects an area you watch. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we protect it.
Using Outage Scout without an account
You can use the map, outage details, area statistics and "check my location" without signing in. Your watchlist is then stored only on your device. We don't create an account or a profile for you.
What We Collect
- Account information (optional) - your email address and name, obtained from Sign in with Apple or Google when you choose to sign in.
- Your areas and alert settings (when signed in) - the barangays you watch, labels you give them, which alerts and reminders you turned on, and your quiet hours.
- Location (optional) - when you use "Check outages at my location", your iPhone's location is used on the device to find which barangay you're in. It is not sent to us and not stored. Location is never collected in the background.
- Reports you make (optional) - when you report that power is back for an outage, we record it against your account so each person counts once. Others only see the total count.
- Community posts (optional, website only) - messages you post on the community wall at thecloudgrid.com/outage-scout, with the name you enter, are visible to other visitors. The iPhone app has no community wall.
- Feedback (optional) - messages you send through the feedback form.
How We Use It
- To show outages for the areas you watch and keep your watchlist in sync across your devices.
- To send the outage alert emails and reminders you turned on, to your account email.
- To answer feedback and keep the website's community wall safe.
We do not use your data for advertising and we do not sell it. The app has no ads, no ad tracking and no third-party analytics.
Third-Party Services
- Apple and Google sign-in / Firebase - used for authentication. Governed by Apple's and Google's privacy policies.
- Map tiles - the map's background imagery is loaded from OpenStreetMap, CARTO or Google map tile servers, which receive the map area being viewed, like any web map.
- Outage data - outage information comes from BENECO's public advisories. Outage Scout is not affiliated with BENECO.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers or data brokers.
Data Retention
Your areas and settings are kept while you have an account. You can remove areas or turn alerts off in the app at any time, and every alert email has a one-click unsubscribe link.
Account Deletion
You can permanently delete your account from within the app: open Home → More → Delete account. This erases your watched areas, alert settings, reminders and sign-in identity, signs you out on all devices, and cannot be undone. You can also email [email protected] with the subject "Delete my Outage Scout account" and we will process the deletion within 30 days.
Children
Outage Scout is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to This Policy
We will update this page if our practices change. The effective date at the top reflects the latest revision.
